Native Papua woman in the market

Jason Sentuf

Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
This is one of the traditional market activities models throughout Papua! It's about 200 meters from our house in the western part of the city of Sorong-West Papua. As seen in this painting, Indonesian immigrant women mostly dominate the market than our native Papuan women. They sell their goods under the luxury tents, while the native women usually sell their traditional agriculture products in the open air, in front of a crowded shop, and sometimes along both sides of the main road. However, the townspeople mostly respect and prefer to buy fresh fruits and vegetables of native women because their crops are simply without pesticides.
