Description
Maribu Village
I visited this village once a week for Gospel mission ministry 30 years ago. Now, we are living in Sorong Regency of West Papua province. There were still traditional house stages along both sides of the highway to the Depapre district when I was there. It was like the hanging house on the wooden poles about 2-3 meters from ground level. The walls of the house are made of sago stalks. The roof is made of woven sago leaves, while the floor is made of boards. Modern houses are built alongside the paved highway to the Depapre sub-district. Their ordinary food is sago. So many Sago hamlets surrounding the village belong to native people. Sago is a type of palm tree. The sago starch will be extracted from the sago tree. How to produce sago flour? Firstly, sago stems must be cut down, and their bark is peeled; the inside of the tree is forged using a wooden ax to shatter and form fibers. Then, the sago palm fibers are mixed with water and squeezed like coconut milk. Its pollen then flows through a channel made from sago fronds and keeps quiet in a big container made of sago fronds for several days.
Bahasa Indonesia

What a lovely painting Jason! It speaks to me of a place and time far away. The bright colors and attention to detail show just how warmly you wish to tell the story of the village life. Bravo!
Jason Sentuf replied:
I am really flattered by your comment, Laura. This is a sago hamlet village in Jayapura, West Papua, Indonesia. The village that was ever visited by me once a week for Gospel mission ministry 30's years ago. Now I live in a far distant place from this place. Happy Painting!
