Description
This is a taro plantation in the valley. Sometimes, it is found along the slopes of the mountain. The taro plantation method in my village is straightforward and unique. First, the grasses and shrubs must be cleaned with the machete, and then large trees are cut down with an ax. Then we allowed it to dry for two weeks to one month, and all branches and twigs of dried trees were cut off, collected, and burned. Grass, dry leaves, and roots around the bonfire must be cleared, and then its embers shall be spread everywhere on the empty ground. Two or three days later, taro could be planted.
The above description is a true story I experienced during my childhood in the village. Our local community there still uses this traditional farming system until now. This painting is an absolute natural tropical environment of my homeland that has been captured in my imagination since childhood. I have tried to transfer it on canvas during our stay and service as missionaries in South Kalimantan. Before working with the oil medium, I carefully sketched on canvas with a charcoal pencil. My hands are flexible in making smooth and thick lines, manipulating the composition and perspective as instructed by the imagination of my mind. Every detail of this subject comes from my imagination, not photo manipulation.
While working on this painting, the strength of the colors deeply affected my mind and reminded me to pray for my tribe and homeland, even from a distant place.
GREEN dominates this piece. I just realized how deep the meaning of green color therapy is. The power of green significantly affects our spiritual lives and emotions. This kind of taro garden could be found anywhere across the whole Ayamaru Lake - West Papua region. Here, we live as isolated and unknown people, hidden in the valleys, mountains, rivers, and jungles, a green land that prevents and saves our planet from global warming. The international community considers West Papua to be the lung oxygen storage for the safety of our earth.
Bahasa Indonesia

I recognized the lovely taro plants in your painting right away. You captured them perfectly. It seems every part of the taro is useful. Cooked Taro root rolled in Taro leaves with coconut milk sauce is so yummy! The large leaves can be used as plate, bowl, wrapper....many uses and edible!
